Met New Voices bieden we gevluchte fotografen en fotojournalisten de kans om hun vak in Nederland uit te oefenen. Samen met de groep werken we aan een expositie en een magazine. Zo laten we een breed publiek kennismaken met het werk van deze makers.

Wat houdt het programma in?

Het collectieve maakproces is een belangrijk onderdeel van dit project. Deelnemers werken vijf maanden aan een ‘visueel concept’. De nadruk van het project ligt op documentaire fotografie. Het overkoepelende thema is de blik van nieuwkomers op Nederland. Samen met de procesbegeleider kiezen de deelnemende beeldmakers hoe zij dit thema willen vormgeven. Iedere deelnemer werkt dus binnen het project aan een eigen serie.

In verdiepende workshops door ervaren Nederlandse fotografen en andere professionals leren deelnemers over onderwerpen als fotojournalistiek, beeldbewerking en presentatie. Daarnaast organiseren we excursies, bijvoorbeeld naar een fotomuseum of – galerie of naar de beeldredactie van een krant.

With New Voices, we offer refugee photographers and photojournalists the opportunity to practice their craft in the Netherlands. Together with the group, we will work on an exhibition and a magazine, introducing a broad audience to the work of these creators.

What does the program involve?

The collective creation process is a key aspect of this project. Over five months, participants will work on a “visual concept,” with a focus on documentary photography. The overarching theme is newcomers’ perspectives on the Netherlands. Together with a facilitator, the participating visual artists will decide how to shape this theme. Each participant will create their own series within the project.

In in-depth workshops led by experienced Dutch photographers and other professionals, participants will learn about topics such as photojournalism, photo editing, and presentation. We also organize excursions, for example, to a photography museum or gallery, or to the photo desk of a newspaper.
