RFG New Voices
WANTED: NEWCOMER PHOTOGRAPHERS & MEDIA MAKERS
For New Voices IV RFG Media is looking for ten newcomer photographers and media makers with a strong affinity for photography. Do you work with images and tell stories through photography possibly in combination with film or multimedia? Then we invite you to join this six-month apprenticeship programme.
With New Voices, we offer refugee photographers, photojournalists and visual makers the chance to continue their craft professionally in the Netherlands. Together, we work towards a group exhibition, a magazine and various public events.
What does the programme entail?
The collective making process is central. Over six months, participants develop their own visual concept within the overarching theme:
‘Newcomers’ view of the Netherlands.'
Each participant will work on their own series, with an emphasis on documentary photography. Makers combining photography with film or other visual forms are also welcome.
The track consists of:
- Six substantive meetings in Amsterdam (on Saturdays)
- In-depth workshops by experienced photographers and media professionals
(including photojournalism, image editing, storytelling and presentation) - Excursions to, for example, a photo museum, gallery or image editorial office
- Guidance on concept development and portfolio construction
- Preparing for a group exhibition and public presentation
Participants receive a volunteer allowance and reimbursement of travel expenses. Upon successful completion of the course, they receive a certificate of participation.

Who are we looking for?
- We are looking for newcomers with training or work experience as professional photographers, photojournalists or visual media makers.
- You have a strong affinity for documentary imaging.
- You speak Dutch and/or English.
