Mission
RFG Media is an organisation with and for refugee journalists. RFG therefore stands for ReFuGee.
We are driven by a dual mission. The first is to help refugee journalists find a place in the Dutch labour market. The second is that we want the voice of refugee journalists to be heard more often and more clearly. With their knowledge, expertise and experience, they offer different and valuable perspectives in journalism. We believe this different perspective can contribute to pluralistic and balanced reporting.
Methodology
We offer various forms of guidance and training for journalists with a refugee background, both individually and in groups. Every year, we organise three intensive apprenticeships for a select group of participants: RFG Reporter, aimed at developing journalistic skills and expanding portfolios, RFG Newsroom, aimed at deepening experience in investigative journalism, and RFG New Voices, for refugee photojournalists producing an exhibition and magazine together.
We organise networking meetings, editorial visits and training sessions on professional topics for our members, both within the three pathways and beyond. We mediate for internships, work experience spots and paid assignments. We publish productions by our journalists on our own platform and with other media.
Team
RFG Media is a networking organisation. We work with a small team of freelance professionals and a large group of highly motivated volunteers. All RFG employees have extensive experience in the media, in the Netherlands and abroad. Together, we are committed to creating opportunities for refugee media makers. The foundation's five-member board monitors the continuity and sustainability of our services.
