Zakaria Zakaria
“My name is Zakaria Zakaria, a Syrian journalist, producer and researcher based in the Netherlands. My reports focus on conflicts, displacement and social issues in the Middle East, and have been published in international media, including The Washington Post. My work on Syria received international recognition; I was part of a team that received a Pulitzer Prize citation.
Born in the culturally diverse city of Hasaka, Zakaria developed a keen sense of nuance and perspective. Thanks to his knowledge of Arabic, English, Turkish and Kurdish, he is able to reach communities that remain difficult for many journalists to access.
“I know what it feels like to live between different worlds. That is precisely why I believe that journalism can build bridges between newcomers and Dutch society. As a journalist with a refugee background, I want to tell stories that give a voice to those who are under-represented.”
